Plaxtol Local History Group

MAY WE BORROW YOUR HOUSE DEEDS?

Plaxtol Local History Group is launching a project to record the history of the houses of Plaxtol. Several Plaxtol residents have already been kind enough to lend us the old deeds to their house. These have provided a mine of fascinating and valuable details of enormous historical importance and they are helping us to build up a picture of Plaxtol in the past.

Even recently-built houses sometimes come with old deeds. For example, a Plaxtol bungalow built only 40 years ago by the current owners was found to have deeds which recorded its history as far back as 1789, and also revealed much about the history of many neighbouring properties.

If you are willing to lend us your deeds, we will record, in date order, details of the previous owners of your house and/or the land on which it was built, and (where possible) will scan any plans in the deeds. Normally this only takes a few days.

When we return your deeds, we will provide you with a copy of the note we have produced for our Archives. In some cases, we have been able to include further information and/or copies of old photos from our Archives.

We will take great care of your deeds, and will not record details of what you paid for your house, nor of any mortgages by you.

If you do have deeds that you are willing to lend to us, please speak to Haydn Puleston Jones at one of our meetings, or telephone him on 01732 810273, or e mail him on

puleston@hotmail.co.uk.

We would appreciate your help with this valuable work.
