Established in 1919, Plaxtol WI continues to be a thriving and exciting village organisation offering something for everyone.
With a current membership of around 75, ranging from those in their early 30’s through to those in their 90’s, the activities, outings and talks offered throughout the year are planned to suit all interests and lifestyles, from the traditional gardening and cooking to travel, sport, culture and politics. It’s most certainly not all about jam and chutney!
Plaxtol WI meets in the Memorial Hall on the first Thursday of every month. We have a varied programme of speakers and details can be found in our 2016/2017 Programme. Click here to access our Programme. The exception to this is the August Garden Meeting, when one member invites us to enjoy the delights of their garden with entertainment and a few challenges thrown in!
As part of the West Kent Federation, Plaxtol WI is also involved in District and National Events which offer a wonderful opportunity to meet those from both surrounding areas and further afield. The WI is proud to be the largest voluntary women’s organisation in the UK and celebrated its centenary in 2015. Further details can be found at www.thewi.org.uk.
Regular events for members include Tai Chi, book club, craft group, walking group and a quarterly lunch group. In addition to the regular groups, our events and outings for 2016-17 include visits to Allington Castle, “The Clink” restaurant, Maurice Foster’s unique garden in Ivy Hatch and our wonderful coach trip to France for shopping and lunch!
